The Birth of the C3 (1968-1982)

1968 Corvette Coupe

1963 Corvette Convertible

Modeled after the popular "Mako Shark" show car, the 1968 Corvette heralded the beginning of the 3rd Corvette generation (C3). It sported an all new fiberglass skin and updated interior installed on a virtually identical chassis to last year's model. T-top roof panels and a three-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission were new for 1968.

An extended production year yielded an unusually high build quantity. The '69 Corvette was visually identical to the 1968 model, with the exception of the "Stingray" (now one word) emblem over the side "gill" vents and door handles on the 1968 where push button. The 350 replaced the 327 small block engine in 1969 also.
