Sound Deadening a c5 coupe
Wow! There was nothing really fun with this part of the install except ripping the car apart. I always enjoy ripping cars up just to hear people say, "Why in the hell would you do that to that car?" Laying the actual deadening material pretty much sucks because there really isn't any satisfaction while you are doing it. It isn't hard at all but it does take some time. I also found myself wanting to cover most everything. You get caught up in it! In any event, here are the pics of the process. I did deaden the arch over the seats (b-pillar) as well but I don't think I have any pics of it.
I am very happy with the performance of this mod and would absolutely recommend it to anyone. I used Second Skin Damplifier and Second Skin Damplifier Pro. 160 sq. ft. to be exact. You can see this stuff at www.secondskinaudio.com. There technical support is excellent, should you ever need it, and the product is second to none. Damplifier contains no tar or asphalt products. It is 100% butyl and produces no smell like others. The Damplifer Pro is even thicker than Dynamat Extreme.
Damplifier - This is the entry level mat, but don’t let the words "entry level" deceive you. Damplifier is 65 mils thick has a mil 3 foil heat shield. Because Damplifier is built according to military specifications it has a heat tolerance higher than any extreme level mat on the market, over 450 degrees! Damplifier delivers 250% better vibration damping results than traditional mastic and asphalt mats and close to 300% increase in airborne sound reduction. Damplifier is highly flexible and can be applied to any part of the vehicle. Unlike many other entry level products, Damplifier requires no heat and very little prep work. Simply peel the paper and stick Damplifier on any vibrating panels. Good for road, engine, and exhaust noise as well as thermal insulation and proving the SPL and sound quality of your cars audio stem. Get louder, cleaner volume and save money while doing it!
Damplifier Pro - This is the good stuff, Damplifier PRO was overbuilt to over perform in extremely harsh automotive conditions. Damplifier Pro is 80 mils thick and has a foil heat shield 4 mils thick for better vibration reduction and thermal insulation. Damplifier PRO has a heat tolerance over 500 degrees and can be applied to any area of the car to prevent vibrations and rattles as well as road, engine, exhaust, and wind noise. Damplifier PRO requires no heat and very little prep work. Simply peel the paper and stick Damplifier PRO on any area of the car that needs to be acoustically or thermally controlled.
The install pics pretty much speak for themselves. Some "extras" that I decided to do paid off big time. I put 2 layers of Damplifier Pro on the insides of the doors and I also fabricated 1/4" mdf to fit the big holes and sealed them airtight as well as deadened the mdf on both sides. This mod makes the BlOwSE system actually hit a little. I can feel the bass in my car and it shakes the side mirrors pretty good. However, it is enough to tease and you definitely want more. So off I go, to get more, more, more!
