Engine Removal and Swap

All of these installations are to be performed at your own risk!!!!

Disconnect the oil sensor plug and the cam sensor plug that is located at the rear of the valley cover.  Go ahead and remove the oil sending unit so it doesn't get broken during the actual removal of the engine.  During reassembly you will want to reinstall this unit after the engine is in so you don't damage it.  Ask me how I know that.

Disconnect the bracket that holds the EGR piping to the rear of the block.  There is also a ground strap that needs to be disconnected.  These are right next to each other.  You might find it easier to remove the hose next to the bracket and pull the motor with the pass side hose still attached.  Also, disconnect from side of the exposed metal portion of the pipe.

Step 5 (Front upper accessories):

You can remove the radiator support if you wish.  I think it gives you the illusion of having more room so it make your life easier.  Now, disconnect the two heater hoses, the upper radiator hose, the lower radiator hose, and the coolant crossover hose from the engine.

Remove the six (6) 10mm bolts that hold the water pump on and remove the water pump.  Be careful with the gaskets or just buy some new ones.  These are pretty cheap at the dealer.

Get a suitable container and disconnect the two hoses that go to the power steering box.  There is also a hard line on the bottom that you need to loosen with a 5/8" wrench.  Let the box drain.  To remove the box you need to pull the alternator bracket, that is next.  Remove the alternator bracket by loosening the four (4) 15mm bolts with a 15mm wrench.

Remove the coolant temperature sensor with a 3/4" wrench so it doesn't get broken when removing the engine.  Do the same with the coolant crossover pipe which is done with a 10mm deep well socket.
