Engine Removal and Swap
All of these installations are to be performed at your own risk!!!!
Step 6 (Front lower accessories):
Disconnect the lower drive belt for the AC compressor by releasing tension on the lower tensioner using a 15mm socket. Note the routing of the belt. It is released by pulling the tensioner towards the balancer. Now disconnect the AC compressor. Two (2) bolts at the bottom and two (2) bolts at the top. There is a 7mm stud in one of the top bolts. Replace it when the main bolt is loose. Make sure you know which bolts go where because they are different sizes. The two bolts at the bottom will need to be accessed from the passenger side wheel well. You will need to take the tire off. Unplug the plug that goes to the compressor so it doesn't get broken during the engine removal.
Remove all the attachments that go to the block and around the block. Remember the ground on the drivers side head and the bracket. There are two wires that ground to each side of the block. Remove the oil level sensor on the passenger side of the block under the starter. This can be a little of a pain. You can get it with a small crescent wrench but it goes a little at a time since there is no room. Disconnect the plug above the starter Disconnect the starter wires with 8mm and 13mm. Unbolt the engine mounts. Do one more check EVERYWHERE to make sure nothing else is attached to the engine.
Step 7 (Pull that motor!):
If you have your driveline out you can pull the motor now. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK FOR ANY OTHER CONNECTIONS WHILE YOU ARE PULLING THE MOTOR! I could do this now since I had the driveline out by using a leveler on the engine hoist. With the leveler you can tilt the engine. The only clearance issues you will have is the power steering line on the rack. You can loosen the nut and move the line out the way so the balancer will clear. You may have to tilt and re-tilt the leveler a few times. It will come out eventually. Be careful of the cowl and the tops of the heads. I pulled the motor out with the heads still on.
If you do not have your driveline out you must do the following:
Take your time when pulling the engine! NOW ENJOY THE BIG HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
