Jet Pump Removal (for wear ring)

This installation is to be performed at your own risk!!!!

Here is a basic list of tools you will need:

First you need to remove the ride plate.

1.)  Disconnect the QSTS cable joint (trim adjuster) from the jet pump unit assembly by sliding the locking mechanism forward.

2.)  Disconnect the steering by using a 10 mm wrench or the right size hex socket.  Replace the nut and washers so you don't loose them.

3.)  Disconnect the hose with a flathead screwdriver that makes the stupid rooster tail.  It is located on the top of the pump.  Cap it off if you want or just cut the hose and voila, no more rooster tail.  Unless you like it.

4.)  Cut wire tie and disconnect the bilge hose located on the left side of the pump.

5.)  Remove the 10 mm bolt that bolts the pump assembly to the transom plate.   Heat up each of the  bolts before removal.  The type of torch I use is below.  Remove the four 14 mm bolts that bolt the pump assembly to the transom plate.  Gently pry the pump assembly from the transom plate.  There are some pry tabs.  Pull the jet pump assembly straight back until the driveshaft clears the ski.

6.)  Remove the four 14 mm bolts that connect the impeller duct assembly to the impeller housing.  Pull apart and remove the impeller housing.  Yamaha housing come with a very thin stainless ring that is pressed in and over time corrosion can build up underneath that ring and cause it to come up and bind the impeller.  See pics below.

You can see the difference between the Yamaha original and Skat-Trak's replacement.  The new one is much thicker.

7.)  Clean the gasket material from the transom plate and the impeller duct housing if there is any present.  Clean the bolt threads.   Place a bead of Yamabond on the impeller duct housing and secure it to the transom plate tightening the 14 mm bolts to 12 ft. lbs.  Just snug up the 10 mm bolt because you will break it if you put 12 ft. lbs. on it.  Use thread locker on the bolts.  Replace the remaining pump assembly.
